Fumigation Training
The skills and knowledge required to apply fumigants to control organisms affecting the health, safety or amenity of persons, commodities or environments in domestic, commercial, industrial and maritime situations.
Face-to-face workshop
ProTrain workshops focus on the main unit of competency CPPUPM3011. Successful completion enables candidates to apply for an occupational licence in most states of Australia, and provides credit towards CPP30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management. This course is aimed at people who have experience working alongside a qualified fumigator and are seeking a licence to fumigate, or simply a more complete understanding of the fumigation process.
How the program works
- Pre-course preparation. It is highly recommended that candidates have spent a reasonable amount of time assisting a qualified fumigator and have a basic understanding of the fumigation process.
- Four-day face-to-face workshop. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm in Maroochydore. Covers fumigation methods and enclosure types, fumigant types, testing and monitoring, commodity sorption and desorption, hazard management, compliance and WHS requirements.
- Practical component. Candidates enter the actual designated Risk Area during practical work tasks — appropriate PPE is mandatory.
- Final assessment. Completed with your ProTrain assessor after the workshop.
What to bring
- Biro, pencil and calculator
- PPE — "O" type full face mask & appropriate respirator cartridge (candidates enter the designated Risk Area during practical tasks)
- Gas cannisters of the "AX" O type suitable for methyl bromide (ProTrain can supply these if required — indicate when booking)
- Suitable clothing and footwear on practical days (typically days 3 & 4) including high-visibility shirt or vest, long trousers, enclosed shoes, hat & sunscreen
Eligibility: You will need a valid Unique Student Identifier. Licensing requirements for fumigation vary by state — Western Australia and South Australia require additional units (see fees below).

State licensing
Completing this course gives you a Statement of Attainment — the training step. You then apply to your state or territory regulator for the actual licence. Requirements vary between states; Western Australia in particular has additional requirements, so contact ProTrain before enrolling if you plan to apply for a WA licence.
